What Causes Nerve Pain In The Left Forearm?

I have nerve pain in my left forearm. The skin is tender to the touch but I have no rash. Occasionally I will have shooting pains in the region from wrist to elbow. No fever or nausea. I am a 70-year-old female, otherwise in good health. What can be causing the pain?
