What Causes Navel Pain While Coughing?

Hello, I am experiencing pain just above my belly button. It hurts when I cough and also when I try to have a bowel movement. I have noticed that when I cough that area above the belly button swells up then goes back down immediately after I m done coughing. I have never had an issue like this in the past.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

This may indicate umbilical hernia whcih might also develop in adults, especially if they are very overweight, lifting heavy objects, or have a persistent cough.
if there is too much pressure on the abdominal wall, fatty tissue or a part of the bowel can poke through a weak part of the abdominal muscle. If I am right then surgery is usually recommended, to prevent potential complications, especially if the hernia grows or starts to hurt.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
