What Causes Nausea With Severe Abdominal And Back Pain After Taking Unwanted-72?

I m 19 years old, I had unprotected sex on 5th June it was 20th day of my cycle and I took unwanted 72 within an hour, I ve been feeling Nausea since that day, it s 12th June today and I m having severe abdominal and back pain. Is it a normal side effect?

Hi,

Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill. You have done the right thing by taking it by an hour, as it needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Earlier it is taken, the protection seems to be better.

Since the pill is a hormonal preparation, it could cause certain side effects like nausea, abdominal pain, back pain and intermittent spotting in some individuals. These symptoms should subside over a period of time and needs only symptomatic treatment. The pill should prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake. In case bleeding does not happen by 3 weeks, you need to take a urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly.
