What Causes Nausea, Headache And Cramps During Menstruation?

Hi doctor I am a 19 year old female. I am a little worried about my symptoms. I am on the third day of my period and I feel incredibly nauseous and I have cramps and diarrhea. Early on in the day, I had a headache and lower back pain. I also think I have a little bit of health anxiety because of my irrational fear of throwing up. Furthermore, my mom made fish for dinner tonight and it smelled and tasted fine and I didn t eat that much, only a tiny piece (I don t like fish but my mom forces me to eat some for my health). Later, when my dad arrived home, my mom put another fish on the table which smelled pretty bad. Suddenly I got anxious that I have food poisoning and have been nauseous since. My mom and brother feel completely fine and they ate the same fish I did so I doubt I have food poisoning. I don t have a fever either. Am I just making myself paranoid and overanalyzing PMS symptoms?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through the query and understood your concern. The possible causes for your symptoms are the increased prostaglandin release due to the menstruation, irritability of the bowel due to the stress of eating unwanted food, sometimes the way of preparation may not suit your system as it does to others who eat the same stuff. Please do not stress because if you had some food poisoning your symptoms would be more frequent and intense and others who ate the same food also would show it. Take an antispasmodic to relieve cramping and anti-diarrheal medication to control the diarrhea. You should see your health care provider if there is no relief. Maintain fluid balance. Take care.
