What Causes Nausea And Appetite Loss After Unprotected Intercourse?

I had intercourse with my boyfriend on wensday and I didon t take the morning after pill until Friday afternoon. Friday morning I felt a bit nauseous, exhausted, i was having a loss of appetite, mood swings (began on Thursday), i had abdominal cramps and my entire body was sore. After taking the pill my rib cage began to ache and my body temperature heightened. Could I be pregnant or would these be after morning pill effects?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Morning after pill needs to be taken within 72 hours to prevent pregnancy after an episode of unprotected intercourse.
What you have done seems to be fine. However, earlier it is take, the protection seems to be better.
The symptoms what you are experiencing following the intake of pills seems to be side effects of the pill, as these are hormonal preparations. These symptoms would eventually subside on its own.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding in the form of periods within 3 weeks from the day of its intake.
In case you do not get periods by 3 weeks, you need to take a urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly, as these pills have a failure rate of about 10 to 15%.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
