Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nausea And Anxious Prior To Bowel Movement?
my mother whom i care for is 89 years of age with a fib, (treated with a low dose asprin po qd). also takes lisinopril for htn. She also has seizures taking keppra po bid. My question is this. the doctor and the pharmacist both agree that her symptoms of nausea and shakiness have nothing to do with her medications. I see a connection between her Bowel Movements and the onset of symptoms. She becomes shaky, nauseated, and anxious prior to a BM. Could this be in response to the Vagus nerve? Thank you
Dear friend,I think the symptoms your mother were feeling has nothing to do with vagus nerve activation or side effects of the medicines she is taking .the medicines are really necessary for her and very safe pharmacologically.as far as her shakiness while boeel movements are concerned I should say in old age bowel movements get irregular and laboured.so what your mother is feeling is quite normal in old age.she should be assured rthat nothing serious have happened.and she should be encouraged to have bowel movements within her limit.it will help her alleviate her shakiness during bowel movement.wish her healthy life.thank you.
