What Causes Nausea Along With Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

My husband wakes with a metallic taste and nausea when using his CPAP ..he uses a pressure of 10. He is aware his has GERD...he sleeps with a wedge and he does not eat before bed. He has been using the CPAP since Nov 2016...is doing well with apnea control...however the nausea wakes him in the early morning. It goes away after he is up for 45 minutes to an hour. any suggestions?

I have gone through your query and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain metallic taste in mouth along with nausea can be most probably due to acid reflux while at times using CPAP machine can also cause altered taste, nausea and dry mouth..

So I would suggest you to consult his treating physician and get evaluated to rule out the probable cause of the symptoms that he is facing.

In case if it is due to acid reflux then he can be advised to take Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole..
Take antacids like Milk of magnesia..
Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water..
Always take walk after meals and take your dinner atleast 2 hours before sleep..
You should sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet..

If it is due to CPAP Mask, then adjustment of air pressure, checking the mask for any leakages and using xylitol patches to curb dry mouth can help..
