What Causes Nausea, Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea?

I frequently have nausea, occasionally abdomial cramps and often diarrea. I was managing my life around these issues but now they are managing me and not very well. From my reading it looks like IBS to me. What can I do testing wise to identify what this actually is. About the only thing that does cause me problems are toast with some kind of light topping like whipped cream chesse. Tom

Hello. Thanks for putting your query in HCM.

I can understand your concerns.

Actually there are no tests for IBS. Imean to say that all tests will be normal. Most commonly advised tests are endoscopy and colonoscopy and ultrasound abdomen, stool examination, some blood tests like complete haemogram , thyroid function tests and liver function tests.

Few things to know about IBS:
1. Is a chronic disease which has relapsing and remitting course
2. It will never harm you even if it will persist for whole life
3. Stress, life events, and anxiety leads to aggravation of symptoms
4. Intestine becomes hypersensitive so even discomfort is perceived as pain
5. Increase gas production leading to abdominal fullness and bloating
6. No alarming features like weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, or fever

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon
