What causes nasal polyps?

My 5 year old son keeps snorting lately and had a small epistaxis last night, this prompted me to inspect his nasal passages and noticed he has what appear to be nasal polyps bilaterally? Purple round smooth masses protruding from the lateral walls. I am sure this is a purely coincidental finding and he has possibly had these for years but just wondering if there is any need to be referred to ENT for further assessment? I don t wish to waste a GP appointment needlessly, if they are indeed polyps I certainly wouldn t put him through surgery without good reason. If it makes any difference his Father has nasal polyps and recently had septoplasty to correct a deviated septum (without any history of trauma). Thank you for your time.

Nasal polys are thickening of the skin in the nasal area.
And these can lead to mechanical blockage of the nasal aperture, making the body to start to act leading to local inflammation and thereby symptoms of sneezing, dripping nose and difficulty in breathing.
Altough u can easily tackle these symptoms by local sprays and systemic drugs,
But if they are repetitive and exaggerating with time, they can affect the quality of life namely leading to sleeo apnoea, cough, nasal discharge, etc.
Take care and if not controlled, do visit and ent specialist
