What causes muscle soreness after prolonged standing or sitting?

Hi, I have tough physical job that I have been doing for over 20years, I often wake up in the morning with sore muscle in the morning. However I am now finding that if I sit down for 20 minutes that sometimes they are already stiff and sore. What can I do to help with this?

Hello,

It is just a muscle cramp arising after prolonged standing. As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

Nothing much to worry as the symptoms will settle in a couple of days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

HI DOCTORS, I AM 34, HAVE BEEN SMOKING FOR 13 YEARS, VERY SLIGHTLY OVERWEIGHT BUT GENERALLY HEALTHY. I HAVE HAD THE FLU RECENTLY, NOW I HAVE EXTREME TIGHTNESS OF MY CHEST AND WHEN I SIT UP I AM FINE, BUT WHEN I RECLINE EVEN SLIGHTLY OR LIE DOWN, I CANNOT BREATHE, I COUGH AND HEAR CRACKLING SOUNDS FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER I EXHALE, EVEN IF THERE IS NO BREATH ANYMORE. MY UPPER BODY MUSCLES ARE SORE FROM ALL THE COUGHING, AND WHEN I SIT IN FRONT OF MY TUMBLE DRYER THE STEAM COMING OUT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER. I AM OKAY BUT I CANNOT LIE DOWN TO SLEEP SO I AM GETTING SOOO TIRED. CAN I USE AN ASTHMA INHALER OR WHAT? THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING....

I am 68 years old, non-smoker, slightly over-weight, and in moderately good condition. I have a particular but very annoying pain and irritating problem in my legs. When I try to sleep and my left leg is in a horizontal position with my head parallel to the ground, there develops a severe pain in my calf muscle on the left fleshy side. When I lift my leg toward the ceiling and kick my leg or get up and kick my leg I get momentary relief. Still, when I fall asleep again the pain returns. The pain has been particularly bad in the past two weeks even though I have had this pain over the past 1-2 months. In the morning, the pain tends to weaken after I shower with warm water or place a cold compress on it for 15 mins. Yet it can it times return. When I have the pain, it hurts when I walk or climb the stairs. Interesting the pain seems to subside when I sit or stand for a prolonged period. I am not on any medicine, but frequently have night sweats.
