What Causes Mouth Ulcers In A Toddler?

Hi I have a question.. My son is 3 years old, he has white sores in his mouth and back of his throat the sores are on his gums, cheeks, & lips.. His gums are swollen and red he can t chew anything he s been drinking water and shakes and has been eating the soft cereal bars and some other things.. We are on vacation in Florida and we are from Michigan im not really sure what to do his dentist sent a script for antibiotics because of the white bump he has on his gums. He just recently had dental work done on the 3rd of this month and was thinking it could possibly be because of that but now it s spread all into his mouth.. He is also doing the thing where it feels like something s stuck in your throat and trying to get it out and crying because his tooth hurts and because of the bumps I m just kinda lost as to what to do. Thank you in advance.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it...

As per your complain it seems that sores that are spreading over all the parts of mouth and throat along with swollen gums and pain seems to be most probably due to Viral infection known as Herpetic GINGIVOSTOMATITIS caused by Herpes virus infection..
Consult a Paediatrician or a Pedodontist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and advise investigations like Oral swab culture, blood tests like Viral Culture, antigen-antibody reaction (IgG and IgM antibodies) etc..
If Viral infection is ruled out antiviral medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir can be advised..
As of now make him gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain..
Rinsing with cool water can help..
Maintain a good Oral hygiene..
Give soft and bland foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
