What Causes Mood Swings Post Menopause?

I am in menopause, and do experience mood swings. I had a chance meeting unexpectedly with a psychotherapist, as a promotion at Election night, at a bar. She gave me her card. She sent me an email, suggesting psychotherapy and medication. I was rather shocked. I had therapy, but have other issues from my history which are manageable. I need a second opinion.

Hi,during menopause your body is undergoing hormonal changes so it does show some effect on the way you behave and also some physical symptoms.Mood swings are commonly observed as long as you understand it.Its good that you visited a psychotherapist as you had doubts. Its always better to talk about it and clear those doubts. You were prescribed medicines for exactly what cause apart from the mood swings? How many visits did you pay? Before that if you feel then its better to visit a psychiatrist then go for further options.Any problems you had in the history like medical issues or things that disturbs you then consulting a psychiatrist and get yourself diagnosed first.Do not jump onto medicines suddenly, sometimes just the counselling helps. As medicines treat the cause not alone resolve the issue and recover a person from some stressful condition totally. As long as you are aware of your condition the chances to deal with them easily increase.wish you a good health and do feel free to contact further if needed.
