What Causes Mild Headache And Soreness In Back After A Injury?

Yesterday (Saturday) I slipped and fell on ice 7amish, landing on my back and neck, pain shot through my back and I cant remember if I hit my head. Husband came out to help me up as I wasn t able to get up right away. I seemed fine once I got up a little tired but continued with my day, took a nap around late afternoon (estimately 2am to 430pm), everything seemed ok other than a mild aching in head, too light to be a headache. my back is sore, no bruising, been mildly stretching to help with pain, pain is mild nothing to severe. Today (Sunday) head is aching not severely but headachy almost. what should I do and could it be related?

Hi,

As you fell on your back and neck, little pain in those areas for few days is normal. As far as the pain is reducing in intensity and you can maintain your daily routine, there is nothing to worry about.

If you develop symptoms like dizziness, vomiting, disorientation, severe pain in back or neck, then I would advise you to visit a physician for physical examination of the injury, get x-rays and MRI done and rule out severe trauma to the vital parts of the body.

Your pain will subside automatically when the injury will heal completely. The wound or bruises are not seen from outside, but back, neck and head have absorbed the shock so they do need time to heal.

Meanwhile, you can take Ibuprofen 400 mg or Paracetamol 500 mg to alleviate pain as and when needed. These medicines are available easily over the counter. Take these medicines only if you are not allergic to them.

There are also many mild to severe causes that can cause headache other than injury to the area. If your eyesight have developed problem, you have migraines, your stomach feels upset, you have not had adequate sleep, you have developed hypertension, then also you can feel headache. There are many other reasons that can contribute to headache. So if you do not feel any relief in pain in next 3-4 days, I would recommend to see a physician for physical examination and rule out the specific cause of the headache.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
