1. since illness is continuous and prolonged thus see an infectious disease doctor who might go for detailed investigations like:
. Hb%, WBC,ESR,Peripheral smear [for malaria] & leukemia
. Urine: routine & microscopic/urine culture
. Widal test/Dengue test
. H.I.V. test
. Montoux test
. X- ray chest
. Weil's test [scrub typhus]
.
ultrasonography of liver & abdomen
.
blood culture if no source is detected
2. Most fever in general are viral,self limiting and require only symptomatic treatment but before labeling a fever as viral, one must look [as a compulsory] for pallor,jaundice,neck
stiffness,abdomen for liver & spleen and auscultate the chest.
2. make sure there is no running epidemic e.g. malaria,
influenza,
viral hepatitis,typhoid in the locality, then that cause must be dealt first.
3. If everything comes normal, then general measures which can be practiced is/are:
. cold compresses over forehead,axillae
. bed rest
. semi solid or liquid diet
. avoid exposure to wind, avoid head bath or bath [sponging is ideal]
. Take soft food,plain dal,boiled vegetables,plain water or electral water
. Avoid cold water,oily/fried food
. You can have plain idli,bread butter,toast jam,cornflakes,apple,banana, pear,dry fruits,biscuits
