What Causes Migraines And Seizures?

my daughter has had what she calls migraines for months. In the last 2 weeks she has had 2 seizures. She is 26 years old with no history of this before. Because she is on medical the doctor s office person claims they are waiting on authorization to run tests. It been over 2 weeks with no tests scheduled. My question is should I be worried this can be serious?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I would like to have a better description of her migraine attacks and her seizures. Has she had seizures before?

I would like to explain that migraine attacks and seizures can coexist, because of a similar hyperexcitability of the brain causing both of these disorders, but they may also be caused by a brain lesion (a tumor,an infection, an aneurysm, a vessel malformation) which can be related to this clinical scenario.

I would recommend you to consult her with a neurologist for a careful physical examination for neurological signs. A routine blood test, an EEG and a brain MRI scan are necessary to establish the diagnosis.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
