What Causes Metallic Taste In Mouth While On Albuterol Nebulizer For Bronchitis?

I was diagnosed with bronchitis a few days ago. I have been taking augmentin 875 mg 2x per day since Thursday and doing albuterol nebulozer treatments 2x per day since Thursday. Now I have developed a metallic taste when I cough and I have gotten more short of breath. I still have mild pain in my chest when I breath in and when I breathe out. Could this still be bronchitis and I just need to wait it out or could it possibly be pneumonia. I do not have a fever.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain metallic taste in mouth while coughing seems most probably be due to side effect of the medications that you are taking and steroids that is albuterol and antibiotics augmentin can cause a side effect of causing metallic taste in mouth..

Secondly shortness of breath can be due to Bronchitis only and in case if you are also developing fever, increased chest discomfort and cough and phlegm formation it might be probably progressing towards Pneumonia and needs evaluation..

I would suggest you to consult a Pulmonologist and get evaluated again and a chest x ray, blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly, although you are being treated appropriately.

For bad taste you can chew flavoured sugar free chewing gums.
Gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
