Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 67 yrs old, and for a couple of months now I ve been having a metal taste in my mouth and my tounge has a lot of white on it. I am not taking any particular medication that I ve been taking for quite some time. Also, at the roof of my mouth when my tounge touches appears to be more of the metal taste. Thank you.
hello, I suspect that you have a dry mouth which is a typical side effect from medication. You most likely have developed a fungal oral infection which often includes symptoms that you describe. You can help avoid this occurrence by taking acidophilus or probiotics. Visit your dentist to evaluate your condition. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, you may be prescribed the anti fungal medication Nystatin. There are prescription comfort rinses that can offer relief as well. Keep up with good daily dental care. Rinsing with warm salt water and gentle brushing of your tongue is recommended. Keep well hydrated and take balanced vitamins. You can also consider seeing your doctor to review your medical history and up date blood testing. Certain diseases such as Diabetes can exhibit some of your symptoms. Vitamin deficiencies should be screened and corrected. Thank you for your inquiry.
