What Causes Lumps On The Upper Arm And Shoulder?

My son has a lump on his outside rt upper arm near shoulder. It s about small egg size. It causes no pain or discomfort even when palpitated. Thinking it was muscle related we went to a PT, they suggested an orthopedic MD look at it first. Other than a simple lipoma what could this be?
