I have a lump of size of half a pea under my left armpit towards the lower side. Its been there for more than 6 months. I don t think it has increased but it hurts and the knot is inside the skin and not on it. Should I get it checked? No history of cancer in my family.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Lump in the armpit is most commonly due to enlarged lymph nodes. Other lesions which can cause a lump are soft tissue swellings or accessory breasts. Cancer spread can lead to lymph node enlargement, however, infections are the common cause of lymph node enlargement. An aspiration cytology of the lesion is required to know the nature of the lesion. In this investigation, cells are aspirated from the swelling, stained and examined under the microscope. This investigation will help to make the diagnosis.
