What Causes Lump On The Shin After An Injury?

I fell down a couple of stairs about 7 hours ago. I hit my shin hard. I iced it and took Advil. It was sore but not bad. I've kept off of it most of the day- sitting or laying down. However in the last 20 minutes. It started feeling really sore and strange. I looked down and a lump the size of a softball is growing on front of my leg.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It seems that due to hitting the leg along with soreness and hard lump seems to be due to hematoma formation and it occurs due to rupture of blood vessels and accumulation of blood in the soft tissues..
Pain is due to inflamed tissues only..
I would suggest you to do cool compresses over the area..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Apply Heparin gel as it will help in resolving the lump soon..
Elevate your leg while lying down and also limit exertion..
In case of no improvement in a week consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
