What Causes Lump On The Scrotum After Draining Scrotal Abscess?

I had a small scrotal abcess drained today. The incision was very small and healed shut within hours, but there is still a hard lump about the size of a nickel. When I went in to have it drained, it was only dime-sized. Is it normal for the area to heal so quickly, but more importantly, should I have a larger hard lump? I just started antibiotics today as well

Hi,Dear thanks for the query to HCM virtual Clinic.
I studied your query in all the details put forth by you.
I understood your health concerns.
Cause of the Scrotal abscess after draining it-
In your case You seem to have the scrotal boil with abscess, which appears to have been drained by you with a small and inadequate incision as explained by you.
The small hard lump- which has remained after draining the scrotal abscess, is the left over tissue which is nothing but the indurated surrounding tissue of the scrotal wall.
The draining hole has shut down earlier as the scrotal wall has lining of the scrotal muscle due to which it shuts down earlier and hence needs to be drained and packed with the medicated sterile gauge.
Area has not healed fast, but due to the scrotal muscle has shut down and may recur if not drained by packing it with medicated gauge.
So chances of you having a larger and recurrent lump is more in your case.
Antibiotics though started by you would not help you unless you drain that abscess with wide open incision by ER surgeon and take antibiotics under his guidance.
Hope this would resolve your query to your full satisfaction and would help you to plan your treatment with your doctor.
