Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 22 year old woman and have been experiencing extreme lower back pain on my right side that comes in waves. It hurts, and the pain moves upward a few inches, and then goes away before coming back in a few seconds. This happens for half an hour and then goes away for a few hours. It doesn't feel like I pulled a muscle in my back. What do you think it is?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. The pain on the area which you mentioned can be due to kidney stones or pelvic inflammatory disease.A thorough physical examination is necessary and ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis might be needed to rule out the condition. Kidney stones if small can be managed by urine alkalizers like potassium citrate and increase water intake. If it is pelvic inflammatory disease then antibiotics will help you. Do you have any associated urinary or gynecological problems or discomfort.?I can help you if you give more details. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries. Thanks
