What Causes Low Hemoglobin Levels?

I am on dialysis three times a week.before that I was getting procrit shots for low hemoglobin.since beginning dialysis ,I no longer receive pro fit,instead I get aranesp weekly with my treatment.howevet,my hemoglobin has dropped several times. Causing me to have transfusions.my feeling is that the aranesp is not effective as the procrit.i have mentioned this to the doctors and all I hear is they don t use procrit at the center any more.i know it is very expensive but I carry two good insurances.i feel that my life is at stake here.do you have any comments for me.? Thank you,.

Hi,

Chronic kidney disease can cause low hemoglobin because if decreased production of erythropoietin. Consult a nephrologist and plan for erythropoietin injection.
