What Causes Losing Weight And Appetite With Family History Of Diabetes?

My spouse (male) is loosing a lot of weight, eating less and finds things like bread-and-butter pickles or chewing gum to be too sweet to his smell. I'm questioning whether not it may be an indication of diabetes in the family like his mother had. He's also a big beer drinker so it's hard to tell if he urinates frequently.

hi,
It can not be told whether some one is a diabetic or not based on symptoms alone. It is always wise to get tested when there is suspicion especially in the background of positive family history.
you should also consider thyroid and liver diseases.
First let him undergo tests for fasting and postprandial sugars, urine analysis, thyroid and liver function tests, in relevence to his symptoms of weight loss and alcoholism.
all the best.
