What Causes Loose Stools After Completing Flagyl Course?

Hi - I took Augmentin for sinus infection for 14 days. I developed loose stools a week after I finished my anti biotic course of Augmentin so I saw a doctor and he prescribed Flagyl which stopped the loose stools but i just finished the course yesterday and still got 2 loose stools this morning. Is this normal? He also gave me Lomotil which i did not take after yesterday should i still continue that? Please help.

Hello,

You developed antibiotics induced diarrhea so he may advise metronidazole. You can use probiotics twice a day for five days then you may improve. Avoid spicy food and alcohol. Avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. If symptoms not improve, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
