What Causes Loose Motion , Fever And Stomach Cramps In A Child?

Hi, my eight year old daughter suddenly developed fever and loose motions this morning. I have been giving her panadol syrup for the fever and lots of water, sprite and rice gruel for her motions. But the problem is she passes loose stools as soon as she eats anything.thankfully there is no vomitting. But at times she is complaining of stomach cramps while passing stools. Her temperature is fluctuating between 102.3F and 100F. Do I need to give her so e kind of antibiotic? Can I give her a half tablet of metrogyl 400 which I have with me? please advise.

Hi,
According to me and as per your history I feel that your kid has had a food poisoning.

Yes panadol for fever is fine, you should also give Oral Rehydration Salts( ORS )
ORS keep prevent dehydration. As to starting antibiotics, metrogyl wouldn't be my first choice as it leaves a mettalic taste. Before that I wouldn't want you to take a decision on giving antibiotics without your doctors advice. So kindly get back to your doctor.

Take care
