What Causes Long Periods When On Contraceptive Pills?

I've been on birth control for a while now. I understand the side effects and such but I just recently started having my period but it's been almost three weeks that I've been stuck on it. Some days it will be old blood and some days it will be new blood. what could this be?

2) Please see a gynecologist with ultrasound examination if there is something wrong in uterus
