What Causes Little White Spikes Under Chin And Neck?

Hello. I have these growths on the bottom of my chin and on my neck; i dont know what they are. They look like little spikes of skin and little akin tags that split at the end. They have grown in 2 distinct patches. We have tried wart remover bbut it didnt work. We cut one whole patch off, but it grew back and increased in numbers within a few months. What could they be? And how do i get rid of them?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query cancan be two thinks .

- Firstly it can be folliculitis that is inflammation of hair follicles due to infection ,chemical irritation or physical irritation.

- Secondly it can occur due to keratoacanthoma , it is a growth of hair follicles due sun burn or over exposure to UV radiations .

I would suggest you to not to remove them by your own as it can complicate the condition like infection .

- Give cold compresses 3-4 tomes a day .

- Take ibuprofen(if not allergic) or paracetamol for itchiness and discomfort.

- Take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl .

Consult dermatologist for proper examination and rule out causes like hives or angioedema .
Doctor may order blood test , skin patch test or biopsy. He /she may prescribe antibiotics or anti fungal drug depending upon the diagnosis .

Doctor may recommend their removal by cryotherapy , curetage or surgically.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
