What Causes Lethargy And Nose Bleeds While Having High BP In An Elderly?

My mother is 85 physically healthy but presents with high BP and signs of vascular dementia as after a CT scan there is significant decrease of white brain matter. She has these episodes for 2-3 hours of confusion lethargy and feeling of being unwell. She is also having a number of nose bleeds. Could these episodes be TIA s or something else?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are suffering from lethargy and nose bleeds while having high BP in an elderly . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like infection , trauma , allergic and nonallergic rhinitis. , hypertension and use of blood thinning medications . But in your case the symptoms are probably due to high BP . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI and do physical examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics .Nose bleeding in case of head injury sometimes become a emergency condition if there are symptoms like dizziness , vomiting and neck pain. For now do icing of node and compress it for few minutest to stop bleeding .
