What Causes Lesions In Mouth With Fever & Sore Throat?

I have white lesions on the roof of my mouth near the front teeth, the gums are swollen, tender, and slightly red. My jawline is sensitive to the touch, as if it were bruised, but is not bruised. I have cold-like symptoms: achy, weak, loss of appetite, slightly feverish, swollen gland, sore throat. However, I have never had a cold or flu with the mouth lesions and tender jaw line. I did eat hot peppers approx 10 hours prior to this occurring, but this is regular. I m 29, female, and do not smoke.
