What Causes Leg Cramps During 28 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

I am 28 weeks pregnant. Two days ago I had a severe leg cramp in my right calf. It woke me up from sleep. Now I have some lingering tenderness and a slight bruise in that spot. Should I be concerned? I am a hostess at a restaurant and spend about 7 hours a day standing for my job. I am usually very active and have only gained 10 lbs during my pregnancy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
It is good that you have been physically active but sometimes prolonged standing can cause blood to pool in the veins in your legs and that may have caused the tenderness and bruising. In pregnancy the tendency to bruise is a bit higher. To be on the safer side kindly get a venous doppler/duplex scan done of the affected region. This would help me rule out any adverse effects.
Hope this helps,
Thank you for your query,
