What Causes Late And Heavy Menstrual Bleeding?

So I m 23 years old and my menses had been 26 days late up until yesterday. When it did come it at first was a pinkish discharge and then developed into an, abnormally for me, heavy flow. I m quite concerned that I may be having so e type of thyroid problem. I also have sharp sticking pains in my abdomen and upper uterus... I can taste a slight flavor of metal in my mouth as well

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. I would like to offer my opinion in the current scenario. If you are sexually active and do not use any contraception, and if you have always been regular with your cycles, you have to exclude pregnancy. This can be done through the blood test and the pelvic sonogram. If negative, hormone imbalance is the next possible cause and can be detected through a hormone assay which includes thyroid profile as well. Further management can be planned accordingly. Maintenance of a healthy weight, regular exercise and a healthy diet are essential to maintain proper hormone balance. Hope this helps.
