Hi,

Symptoms of premenstrual syndrome like breast tenderness, nausea, abdominal cramps, body pains, etc. can occur due to reproductive hormonal fluctuations. Usually estrogen is the hormone which is believed to be protective against the pain, because of the decreased estrogen levels during the premenstrual period, sometimes body pains along with joint pains like knee joint pains can be experienced.

Premenstrual syndrome can be treated with supplements of calcium, evening primrose oil, etc. Simple analgesics can also give the symptomatic relief. Regular calorie burning exercises, adequate sleep, avoiding caffeine, sugar, etc. during the premenstrual period can decrease the severity of symptoms. Please discuss these things with your gynecologist and take treatment and accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
