What Causes Klebsiella Pneumonia?

Hi my name is Betsy, My question is I was in the Gambia West Africa when I returned home was not feeling well my doctor did urine cultures and it showed positive for klebsiella pneumonia she treated me with macrobid was that the choice drug? To my understanding I probably should have had IV cipro treatment is that so? what causes this klebsiella pneumonia and can it return because I think I may have it back again after 5 months later after taking the macrobid is this possible? And also I just returned back from the Gambia West Africa two weeks ago. Thank You Betsy

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You had urinary tract infection with klebsiella pneumonia.
Macrolides antibiotics are not the drug of choice for klebsiella.

Aminogylcoside, third generation cephalosporins or flouroquinolones can be used.

Klebsiella infection occure in immuno compromised patients, hospitalised patients or due to some invasive procedures.

It can returns back if not treated well.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
