What Causes Jock Itch And Burning Sensation In Labia Minora?
Is it possible my 16 yr old athlete has jock itch...itchy burning labia minora which are a little bigger than most girls naturally and she's thin...no unusual smell or discharge but they get so chapped and peel and bleed..have been doing some research to try and help her. She's never been sexually active and is a serious tennis player. I know it's not yeast or an std. She's really open with me and what she's dealing with is pretty uncomfortable. She's had mensus about every month now but less than a year due to her high activity level. All other things seem okay. Would it be a good idea to test out jock itch otc treatments?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Jock itch is a fungal infection also called ring worm. It is presented as red ring like appearance with associated itching. If you have that then applying anti fungal like miconazole ointment will be helpful. If that is absent then it can be due to allergic reaction to some chemicals you use also. So better avoid soaps and irritants to wash the genital area and instead use saline or warm water. You can also use intimate wash regularly which will help to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH and there by preventing further infections. Also use mild detergents for washing undergarments. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
