What Causes Itchy Scalp And Face, Muscle Pain And Fatigue?

Hello, I started taking Exemestane 25 mg three days ago. My scalp and face become very itchy and I feel as though I have creepy crawlers in my hair. I tried a Benadryl 25 mg to no avail. I could not get to sleep so took one Ratio-Lenoltec #3 (Acet/Caff/Codeine 30 mg.) which did the trick. This, however, is not a good idea. I was recently taken off of Letrozole 2.5 mg after three months. It did not cause itching or neurological issues, it caused muscle pain and fatigue. I am 76 years old, female, post 2nd mastectomy. Otherwise very healthy. To date, the oncologist seems reluctant to start me on Tamoxafin which I understand has less side-effects. Is there something I can take that is not addictive to relieve this new drug s side effect? Will these issues disappear if I stay on the drug? Just want an opinion...will have to return to oncologist in a few months. Thank you!

Hello,

Itchy scalp is commonly caused by dandruff, poor scalp hygiene, fungal infection, ring worms, scalp psoriasis, etc. Maintain proper hygiene, take bath regularly, clean scalp and shampoo hair daily. You can use Selsun shampoo for cleaning your hair and scalp. Apply keratolytics, such as salicylic acid, pyrithione zinc or anti-fungal creams on the affected area will bring relief. Dandruff that falls on the face may make face itchy, you should clean your face properly and then apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream, be careful, do not let it go into your eyes.

Change your towels, hair brush, hats, pillow covers and combs to let go the infection. Buy new ones. Muscle pain and fatigue may be due to the side effects of the medicines you have been taking. Do not stress, stay at rest. Medical conditions that can cause muscle pain and fatigue are dehydration, lack of exercise, hypothyroidism, myositis, myasthenia gravis, mineral deficiency, poor muscle tone, muscular dystrophy, etc.

To treat muscle fatigue and pain you should get connected to a Physical therapist to do exercises, massage therapy, etc. Do regular walking. Take home made food rich in minerals, you can also take supplements. Taking anti-inflammatory medicines may help. Get clinically examined by your treating doctor and get required tests and investigations done. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
