What Causes Itchy Rashes And Hives On The Body Despite Taking Benadryl?

I took Bactrim for a uti and got hives and a rash. I stopped taking it but I got hives and a rash that is itching. The dr told me to stop taking it when I called but at that time I had only hives and now a itchy rash over my upper body. Is this dangerous. I have been taking Benadryl and put hydrocortisone on the rash today.

Hi.
As per your case history you are having urticaria.
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors.
2. Also avoid any over the counter medications as it may causes hives.
3. Start antihistamine like levocetrizine twice daily.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone, oral hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
