What Causes Itchy Rash On Leg With Deep Vein Thrombosis?

My husband is 81 years old and has been diagnosed with right leg deep vein thrombosis today. The doctor performed a sonogram of the leg which confirmed it. His leg has been terribly swollen but he did not complained of any pain. I noticed yesterday that he had a very itchy rash on the same leg. My husband is in a rehab center and I told the nurse about it. She believed it was cellulitis. I am a little confused, can he have both?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
This problem might be due to deep vein thrombosis causing improper vascular circulation leading to cellulitis, itching and infection as well.
Consult vascular surgeon and get examined.
Afterwards he will decide plan of treatment.
Meanwhile go for one antibiotic medicine course for 5-7 days.
Raise foot end while taking rest.
Rule out diabetes as well.
Ok and take care.
