Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to urinary tract infection/urethritis, or vaginal infection. I would suggest to consult the gynecologist and undergo vaginal examination, urine tests and vaginal swab test to confirm the cause. Following prescribed treatment will help you:

For UTI, take tablet septran DS, tablet pyridium, syrup cital, tablet cetrizine. Drink plenty of water and juice of cranberry, orange and pineapple. Take warm water sitz bath and wash vagina with warm salted water and then apply apple cidar and vinegar. Apply vagisil cream. Do not delay in emptying the bladder and empty it completely.

For vaginal infection, vaginal suppository of clingen and lactobacilli will help. Avoid stress, maintain proper pelvic hygiene, wear pure cotton loose inner, avoid sex till you get better, eat healthy diet and do regular exercise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sagar

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

1. Vaginal discharge [brown], itching, and burning are common symptoms of 'vaginitis', so one has to exclude bacterial vaginosis [BV], yeast infection [candidiasis] or simple UTI for which you should make an appointment with your attending physician or gynecologist for detailed medical history, physical examination and investigations [urine culture, vaginal samples]. The physician accordingly will prescribe either vaginal suppositories, anti fungal medicine, or antibiotics

2. Only yeast infection respond to over the counter medicine and not other so although one can take self care at home but if no improvement is seen one should check with a qualified doctor.

i) One may take clotrimazole [as vaginal suppository] at night

ii) Vinegar douches

iii) Yogurt acts as a good medium for certain good bacteria to thrive [lactobacillus acidophilus]

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
