Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 year old son says his rectum has been really itchy. He was feeling constipated yesterday and had the itching. This morning he had a BM. There was no itching. This evening he tells me that for the past three hours the intense itch is back. It is not painful but irritating enough to bring tears. I check him out. He looks clean. I have applied Cortizone (sp?) cream. What do you recommend. Thank you, Warren Smith
This might be due to pinworm infection. Pinworms infections are highly contagious. When a person scratches the affected area, the pinworm eggs transfer to the fingers. The eggs can survive for several hours on your hands. If the infected person touches bedding, clothing, toilet seats, toys, or other household objects, the eggs transfer to these objects. Advice 1. Albendazole 400 mg daily empty stomach in the morning for 3 days. Ask other family members to take this treatment for 3 days simultaneously 2. Trim your son’s finger nails and ask your family members to do this 3. Wash your son’s clothes and bed sheets in hot water 4. Wash your son’s hand with warm water and soap before eating 5. Avoid scratching the affected area I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
