What Causes Itching In The Crotch?

Over the past month, I have developed night-time crotch itching. Sometimes the top of my feet and parts of my hands itch as well, but the problem primarily affects my crotch. This only happens at night, is recent, and we haven't changed detergents, soaps, or anything like that.

Hi, welcome to HCM. Thanks for asking your query at this forum.
We understand your concern. I have read your question carefully and understood it. I will try my best to answer it.

As you told, you have developed itch since last one month mainly at groin, hand and feet and it is not curing despite change of toiletries and detergent.

It points towards either a fungal infection or infestation with scabies. Since you experience more itch at night it goes more towards scabies infestation.

let me explain this issue in detail.
Scabies is caused by a very tiny mite which is invisible to naked eyes. It burrows inside the upper layer of skin, mainly at groin, crotch and web space of fingers and toes. At night time the mite is more active and it lays eggs. while laying eggs it secretes a chemical which produces severe itch. It produces burrows and small tiny water-filled blebs on skin.

Apparently this is happening with you. For cure and to prevent re-infestation, all members of your family staying at the place should be treated together at a time. You all may be prescribed anti scabies lotion/ cream like Gamma BHC lotion or permethrin cream to apply locally for 2-3 days to kill the mite in body. You all should avoid sharing beds and cloths to avoid re-infestation with each other. All cloths should be washed in hot water, sun dried and ironed before use; this will destroy all mites at cloths. Anti allergic tablets like levocetrizine may be prescribed for initial few nights to cure itching.
This is very effective way of treating such kind of infestations. Changing of soap/detergent is not a remedy.

I hope it answers your query. I wish you all the best.
