What Causes Itching And Redness On The Left Index Finger?

The skin on my left index finger, right above the nail is itchy, red with a very slight small bump. Only finger this is occurring on and the itching has been going on for a couple of months, however more recently has become more red and the itching has been more consistent. Originally thought it was dried skin, tried lotions which haven t helped. I am thinking a topical corticosteroid might be next and or anti fungal or antibiotic. unsure if it is infected

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it will be a superficial fungal infection.

As a first line management, you can apply topical antifungal like Clotrimazole for symptomatic relief.

If lesion persists better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
