What Causes Itching And Pain In The Ears?

back in July I started having my ear itch and hurt all the time and doctors didn t find anything. At the same time I had a yeast infection under fat roll, by my genital area and butt crack. It finally got to where I couldn t get a Q-tip in my ear, went back to doctor had infection, was given drops for my ear and cream for the yeast infection. My ears got better but has never really gone away. Two weeks later, more or less went back to the doctor with my ears and yeast. This time they said I had MRSA in the ears. Gave me same kind of drops, cream and antibiotics. My ears never really quit hurting and the yeast would go away and then come back. I just went back to the doctor on the 29 of December and they did culture and now I have staff! I don t know what kind of doctor I need to see to get this all taken care of. I am 60 years old, have heart disease, twelve stents and two light heart attacks I weigh around 139 and I am 5 6. Could my heart disease contribute to this not healing right

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should get your immune system checked out, and get yourself evaluated for diabetes, which is a possibility considering the fact that you have been having recurrent infections.

Now, the problem with MRSA is that it is resistant to Methicillin. That is a problem as it will respond to only certain antibiotics, which need to be decided on before your therapy starts.

At the same time, be careful as this infection is prone to spread. Ensure you use that antibiotics for the entire course as prescribed by your clinician. MRSA refers to Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus.

So them saying its STAPH, is probably the same thing. Additionally, the non healing of your infections is probably not related to your heart disease. Eat healthy, cut down on oily foods and get yourself evaluated for diabetes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
