What Causes Irregular Periods?

Hi, i am 24 years old. Have been diagnosed with PCOS from past six years. My periods have been highly irregular ever since. I am not able to have my periods naturally. I have changed 2 doctors. I have no plans or marriage/kids for another 2 years. My present consulting gyneac has given me the prescription for 2 tablets of meprate per day, 1 tablet chrominac A in the morning and 1 tablet benforce in the night. I trust my current gynaec, she is 20 years experienced. But looking for a second opinion on the prescription. I have been having symptoms of constipation and bloated stomach from the time of starting the prescription. Please comment if the symptoms are common

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I can understand your concern.
* PCOS is a condition of hormonal imbalance/ insulin resistance causing failure of ovulation &irregular menses. Some times the imbalance is to the extent that a hormone needs to be given to induce withdrawal bleeding.
* Your doctor has started with the drug regime -
Meprate- to regulate your menstrual cycle.
Chrominac a- to remove insulin resistance & stimulate ovulation.
Bemforce M is a metformin preparation for weight reduction & facilitate removal of insulin resistance.
With this type of medication 6 months to 1 year is the time required for results.
* Constipation & bloated stomach is a side effect of Meprate- the hormonal pill- that you are taking.
- This will reduce as your body gets used to it
- Till thee time you try to manage it with life style changes like taking fibers in diet/ drinking plenty of water/routine abdominal exercises/ daily walking.
Thanks.
