General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I have read your query & understood your concern. Menstruation is a complicated cycle of various hormones which may not be completely set at early puberty . Mostly the bleeding here is due to growth of uterus under influence of estrogen.. which causes thickness of internal layer of uterus .. which eventually is shredded off. Other hormones are yet to be activated, the ovulation is yet to start... so naturally the bleeding is very irregular for first year of starting menses .Please don't worry. This is the time when the girl can be taught about genital/ cleanliness during periods. - She should be encouraged to eat a balanced diet with special attention to proteins, vitamins & minerals like iron, calcium,. This is the time to set healthy habits & strong health. Importance of exercise/ working hard to get well educated & develop excellent qualities for successful life. - She must be given proper information about menstrual cycle / it's purpose & importance in female life.& importance of indulging in sex at proper time of life. At the same time make her aware of possible sexual assaults while moving in society & teach her art like Judo Karate.. so that she can be self protective. Thanks.
