What Causes Irregular Periods And Lower Back Pain?

Im 44 old female, my periods have always been on track every 28 days....i didnt have one for 2 months, then i start and it last 16 days i have been off for about 10 days and have been spotting last couple days..i have not had any sex in about a year so i know im not preganaunt...i have had pain in my left ovary lower back could i be entering menapause or could this be more serious? Help me

Thanks for letting us know of your health concern. I have gone through your query and would like to offer some possibilities. You are likely to be entering perimenopause considering your age. This can cause delayed periods, prolonged periods, irregular bleeding and so on. Also, other causes for such bleeding like cysts of the ovary, erosion of the cervix, polyps of the cervix and endometrium should be looked for through a proper clinical exam. A trans-vaginal/pelvic sonogram is helpful to know the status of the pelvic organs. You need styptics to arrest the bleeding and a course of hormones to restore the hormone balance. Take a healthy diet and maintain a healthy weight. Take care.
