What Causes Irregular Heartbeats When Having A History Of SVT?

My cardiologist has ordered a Nuclear stress test (lexiscan) and an echocardiogram for me. I have a history of svt and am taking meds for high bp. I have just completed wearing an event monitor for 30 days because of irregular heartbeats. I am so very very nervous about the lexiscan test that I am beside myself. So afraid of another svt episode. Can you tell me if it is safe for me to have this test? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Irregular heart beat originate in heart and has many causes. It can only be diagnosed by ECG or if needed Holter monitoring. It may be because of
1. Hypertension
2. Diabetes
3. Hyperthyroidism
4. Any heart problem
5. Electrolyte abnormalities
6. Infection
For proper diagnosis we need complete work up and investigation. Atrial fibrillation can only be diagnosed by ECG. So discuss about this with your physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
