What Causes Intermittent Stomach Pain?

Hello doctors,I have stomach ache on and off these few weeks. It is more severe in the morning right after waking up. But when i lay down in bed, I feel much better. I don t have diarrhea or nausea at all. I drank water from water fountain few weeks before and I haven t taken any special food recently. I have similar experience 10 years before and had taken internal check of my stomach. x-ray? Not sure. The doctor said that I was fine at that time. Appreciate for your advice. Thanks a lot!Ann

Hi,

Early morning pain in abdomen especially on waking up (empty stomach) is due to peptic ulcer commonly duodenal ulcer (DU). Pain that awakes the patient from sleep (between midnight and 3 A.M.) is the most discriminating symptom, with two-thirds of DU patients describing this complaint. Pending further investigation like upper Gastro-intestinal (GI) endoscopy, antacids e.g proton pump inhibitor (PPI) like pantoprazole and or sucralfate liquid orally is likely to give relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
