What Causes Intermittent Sharp Pains In Rib Cage?

I sporadically have this pangs in my left side right under my ribs. these pangs come and go. when it comes it is so abrupt it comes out of know where and stuns you. it can last for a 2-3 seconds or come in successions 1pang 2pangs then subsides for a week or month/months. this has been happening for a couple of years. I use to speak to my doctor about it but to know avail. right now it happened today on the right side, however it can be either side.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to costochondritis. I recommend to use anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the symptoms. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to do a chest X-ray and consult a rheumatologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
