What Causes Intermittent Mild Numbness In Upper Left Back Of Shoulder?

I have a dull numbness that comes and goes in my upper left back area (just to the left and bottom of my shoulder blade) with varying intensity. I,ve had it now for the past 5 years. I do smoke cigarettes. I have not suffered any trama to this area. It seem to be internal and radiate outward. Feels about the size of a quarter. Any idea what could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Ischaemic cardiac pain also can give such presentation. So better to have an ecg and stress test to rule out this to be on safe side. Chest X ray should be taken to rule out lung problems also. If those are clear then it can be most likely musculoskeletal pain. NSAIDs like nimusulide ,muscle relaxants like tizanidine, physiotherapy and exercises will help to clear this in such case.
Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
